Description

Cheezburger is looking for a User Experience designer to develop features and functionality for Cheezburger websites and applications.

So what does that mean, exactly?

You will work to take the high-level product/feature vision and turn it into something implementable. From the beginnings of the idea through the launch of the completed feature, you will be involved and contributing.

You'll start by working to get an understanding from the PM and any other stakeholders of the goals and scope of the project. You'll brainstorm with the team, review pertinent data we might have, research possible solutions or best practices that might guide our design decisions.

Then the fun begins. You'll produce wireframes, user flows, sketches, whatever might be needed to communicate the proposed solution, and they will also show alternate options. You will be prepared to discuss these documents at length, give rationale for their recommended solution, and incorporate feedback into their revisions.

As part of development efforts, you will work to flesh out the details and interactions. Sometimes you'll need to clarify the functionality with designers or developers and make adjustments. You'll also ensure that the implementation matches the intended functionality.

When appropriate, you may be asked to make paper or clickable prototypes for testing efforts. We expect you'll be on the lookout for ways we can evaluate the design's effectiveness or gather data to make informed decisions, too.

I see, so what's so great about this job?

At Cheezburger, you get to work on a team of passionate designers and developers who strive to implement the most modern and progressive web/software practices. We are an Agile shop that embraces iterative development, so all team members influence the direction of the product.

Our culture is all about having fun and getting stuff done. We work together to deliver the kind of software that we can feel proud of, yet joke around and laugh with each other all the while. It is not enough for individuals to be great; through a high level of mentoring and peership we strive to build great teams of technical professionals.

Ok, I'm in...what kind of person are you looking for?

  • 3+ years working in interaction design, usability research, or web design, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to solve complex problems and drive projects from concept through implementation.
  • Ability to develop prototypes (low-fidelity is fine) and documentation to aid evaluation and development of designs
  • Knowledge of best practices for web-based information architecture and design, as well as knowledge of usability principles and techniques
  • Experience with Agile development practices.
  • BA, BS, or Masters degree in a relevant field

Also, we want to see...

  • A very high degree of intellectual curiosity. We’re inventing as we go along. We need people who constantly think about changing the world to be a better place and have the ambition to do it.
  • Passion for user experience design and making awesome web sites.
  • A knack for consensus-building through teamwork and collaboration.
  • Keen visual design sense: you don't have to be an artist, but do you know ugly when you see it?
  • Ability to work gracefully and have a bias for action in a fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous environment.

Location

This position is located in our Seattle, Washington headquarters.  Telecommuting is not an option.
